It's still 'flu season!

Australia is just coming out of its winter and has seen a significant increase in the number of patients with flu - 200,000 cases and more then 100 deaths. The impact of flu on Australia is an accurate indicator of what we might expect during our winter.

The flu vaccination can help protect you and you may be entitled to have it. We still have plenty in stock so if you are over 65, pregnant or in an 'at risk' group, please book an appointment. You can call us on 023 92583302. Please ensure you have your 'flu vaccination at the Medical Centre. Doing so means that a record of your vaccination is put on your medical record, we can check that you are well and we are doing everything possible for your health.

We Can Text You!

We are using our text messaging service more and more, to invite you for a review, blood test or let you know if a GP would like to see you. You can also you use it to cancel appointments, decline or accept services and let us know if we are doing a good job! Please make sure we have your up to date contact details. You can do this via this website or EMIS access if you are registered. Alternatively, call us and let us know.

Cancel Your Appointment!

Every week a large number of patients fail to attend booked appointments. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can’t keep your appointment then we can give it to someone else! We offer a text messaging service which has the option to cancel an appointment so please make sure we have your up to date contact details.

Out of Hours 

When the surgery is closed if you have an urgent problem that cannot wait until we are open again, please call 111. For anything life threatening call 999.

Practice Nurses and Health Care Support Worker
Our nurses and health care support worker are available daily at the surgery for good health promotion, advice about travel, diet and exercise, smoking and alcohol and for asthma, diabetic and heart disease clinics, as well as routine nursing procedures. 
 
immuniseChild Immunisation Clinics
The main clinic is held on Thursday afternoons at Gosport Medical Centre but will your child can be booked in with a nurse most days after 3pm.

Well Baby Clinics
Weekly Well Baby Clinics are held by the health visitors.  They can be contacted on 023 9279 4871.

Minor Surgery
This is usually carried out by appointment with Dr Norris at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital or at the surgery.  Please make an appointment with any GP to arrange this.
 
Non-NHS Examinations
The doctors are happy to carry out medicals, e.g. insurance and driving licence by appointment within surgery hours.  Please telephone the surgery for an appointment.  Ask at reception for the charges for these services.
 
Counselling - ITALK
A registered counsellor is available at the practice.  Appointments can be made through your doctor or by self referral
 
Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please make an appointment at least six weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover.  A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS.  A list of these charges is held at reception. We do not do Yellow Fever.


Influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age, pregnant ladies and those with heart, lung, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, their carers and residents of nursing and rest homes. From time to time the Department of Health will add ‘at risk’ groups eligible for this vaccination programme – please contact reception for up-to-date details.

 
Pneumovax Vaccinations
A single dose pneumovax vaccination is also highly recommended for all patients over 65 years of age as this will help protect them from pneumococcal disease which includes pneumonia, septicaemia, meningitis and immunosuppression.  Please telephone to arrange an appointment. 
 
pregnantMaternity Care
We like to see you early in your pregnancy as soon after two weeks from the first missed period.  The midwives hold antenatal clinics every week, where we encourage you to ask questions and discuss any problems.  Partners are very welcome.  The midwives visit you at home early in the pregnancy and informal talks and relaxation classes are held by the midwives.

Contraception
We offer confidential advice to patients of any age.  Our nurses are fully qualified and interested in providing a complete range of contraceptive services.

 
Cervical Smears
This is a very important test to detect early changes that can lead to cancer of the neck of the womb.  The simple test, which is done by the practice nurse, is recommended to be carried out between three and five yearly intervals depending on the age of the patient.  Please ask us for further details.
 
Care of the Elderly
Elderly patients who are over 75 years of age and have not been seen by a GP for over a year are welcome to telephone and book a health screening check.


Fitness to work certificate 
You do not require a doctor’s certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self certification form (SC2) which they will supply. If they require a signed doctor’s certificate for this period, a private one is issued for a fee payable by the employer. For any illness lasting longer than seven days, you will need to see the doctor for a sickness certificate (MED3) to be issued and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate.

Private Fees
Some services are not covered by the National Health Service, such as passport forms, private forms and certificates, insurance and driving medicals. A fee will be charged for these services. Details of these fees can be obtained from our reception staff.
